New Icebreakers Christened for Service
On November 30th 2021, GMU Rector Professor Adam Weintrit attended the christening ceremony of four new icebreakers - Puma, Narwal, Nerpa and Manat, which are units of the icebreaker fleet of the Regional Water Management Authority in Gdańsk.
The ceremony took place at the Motława waterfront on the Ołowianka Island in Gdańsk and was attended by, among others, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Grzegorz Witkowski and President of the Polish Waters Przemysław Daca.
We have 8 icebreakers, we are prepared for the coming winter like never before. I thank the Minister for his appreciation of the hard work of the crews. Polish Waters is primarily its employees and their hard, professional work - summed up Przemysław Daca, President of Polish Waters.
The new icebreakers are modern fourth generation ships, perfectly adapted to the conditions on the Lower Vistula. The units are distinguished by their multifunctionality and innovative design. The modernized fleet will ensure greater safety for residents and improve the comfort of work of the crews in the coming winter season.
