Offshore Energy Agreement in Place
GMU Rector Professor Adam Weintrit has signed a sectoral agreement for the development of offshore wind energy in Poland.
The signatories to the agreement, signed on 15th September 2021, are members of the government administration and key representatives from the offshore wind energy industry. The agreement was also signed by Maciej Matczak, Director of the Maritime Institute, with the Deputy Director of the Institute Professor and Master Mariner Zbigniew Burciu and Master Marine Grzegorz Rutkowski also taking part in the occassion.
The agreement aims to support the development of the industry in Poland whilst maximising the input of Polish businesses in the supply chain, the so-called ‘local content’, for wind farms built in Poland’s exclusive economic zone.
The agreement is to act as the basis for cooperation between central government administrative bodies and regional governments, current and future investors and offshore wind farm operators in Poland, as well as representatives of the supply and service chain, scientific research units and financial insurance institutions, ensuring coordinated actions in the dynamic development of the offshore wind energy industry in Poland, with a focus on strengthening the energy, environmental, economic and social benefits to the country.
The parties in the agreement are the Minister for Climate and Environment, Minister for National Assets, Minister of Interior and Administration, Minister of Infrastructure, Minister of Education and Science, Minister of Finance, Funds and Regional Policy, Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, Minister for Development, Labour and Technology, the Government Plenipotentiary for Renewable Energy Sources, as well as representatives of local government units, education system authorities and institutions of higher education and science, financial and budgetary entities connected with investors and the industry - the Polish Wind Energy Association and Polish Wind Energy Society.
