Windless Regatta in Polish Sailing Cup
The fourth round of the Omega Class of the Polish Sailing Cup took place this past weekend, 04.09-05.09.2021, on the Niesłysz lake in the Lubuskie Lake District. A total of 40 crews entered the races and were divided into two floats, Sport and Standard.
Representing Gdynia Maritime University was Jędrzej Charłampowicz, a staff member in the Department of Logistics and Transport Systems, part of the Faculty of Management and Quality Science, as well as Bartosz Mach and Maciej Skiba. The University team competed in the Standard float alongside 24 other yachts. Sadly, a lack of wind on the first day forced the races to be called off.
Improved wing conditions on Sunday brought between three and ten knots, which was enough for four races to go ahead. The difficult and unpredictable conditions on the water, however, meant that winning performances for our team were mixed with less successful finishes. As a result of the small number of races and the close competition among the continually rotating leading teams, the GMU crew missed out on a podium place by a hair’s breadth, finishing a very demanding competition in fifth place - in itself quite an achievement.
