Winners of First Polish Meteorology Competition Announced

A joint project by Gdynia Maritime University, Gdansk University of Technology and Gdansk University under the name “A Concept for the Construction of Meteorological Infrastructure in Underwater Acoustics at The Central Office of Measures” has been named among 26 projects that qualify for funding as part of the first “Polish Meteorology” competition. The Ministry for Education and Science’s new scheme is to support the conduction of projects aimed at improving the research capabilities of meteorological institutes, strengthening intellectual capital, increasing the competitiveness of the Polish economy, developing modern technologies, stimulating the growth of meteorology, in particular in the areas of health, environment, energy and advanced measurement techniques, as well as the development of digital technologies.

83 applications were received by the Ministry in connection with the competition, based on which a total of 21,229,839.60 PLN was awarded. The Consortium, led by Gdynia Maritime University, received the highest grant awarded to a single project of 1,000,000 PLN. The GMU researchers included in the project are: Karol Listewnik, PhD(Eng) - head of the project, Professor Janusz Mindykowski, DSc(Eng),  Professor Tomasz Tarasiuk, DSc(Eng) and Romuald Maśnicki PhD(Eng). Also part of the team are a group of researchers from Gdansk University of Technology led by Jacek Marszal, DSc(Eng), Associate Professor, as well as researchers from Gdansk University led by  Professor Jarosław Tęgowski, DSc. The application and supervision of the project are the work of the  Intellectual Property and Research Commercialisation Team.
