Wednesday 15th September saw a meeting at Gdynia Maritime University to summarise the work carried out during the last six months on a project entitled "Concept of the construction of the Meteorology infrastructure in underwater acoustics in GUM", conducted as part of the "Polska Metrologia" project.
The project is the work of a consortium comprising Gdynia Maritime University, as the project leader, Gdansk University of Technology and Gdansk University, and is one of 26 projects that qualified for financing in the first phase of the Programme, and received the maximum grant available for a single project of 1,000,000 PLN.
The event was opened by the Deputy Rector for Cooperation and Development, Professor Tomasz Tarasiuk.
The meeting was attended by Jacek Semaniak, CEO of the Central Office of Measures, Dr Andrzej Kurkiewicz, the Director of the Department for Innovation and Development, and Tomasz Michalik, the Director of the Gdansk Office of Measures.
Representing Gdansk University were members of the Scientific Team Karolina Trzcińska, Dr Jakub Idczak, Grzegorz Kolat, and the team leader Professor Jarosław Tęgowski.
Taking part from Gdansk University of Technology was the head of the research team Dr Jacek Marszal, Professor Roman Salamon, Dr Lech Kilian, and Aleksander Schmidt. Also in attendance were representatives of the Ship Technology Centre, one of the subcontractors of the project.
Gdynia Maritime University was represented by the Deputy Rector for Cooperation and Development Professor Tomasz Tarasiuk, Karol Listewnik - project lead, Professor Janusz Mindykowski, Dr Romuald Maśnicki - members of the research team, as well as Magdalena Kukowska-Kaszuba, and Anna Żuławska of the Intellectual Property and Research Commercialisation Team, which is supporting the project at the University.
The meeting was also attended by Professor Krzysztof Kurzydłowski, representing a team of sub-contractors carrying out research on the project.
The meeting aimed to present the work carried out so far, plan for the implementation of the project's plans in terms of the necessary programme indicators, and outline the future development of the new meteorology institution in Poland. Both intellectual and human potential were discussed, and an attempt was made to determine the course of development of the area for the coming years. The teams defined and gave details on near-future activities, the effects of which were widely analysed and discussed among the participants. The meeting concluded with the development of a common vision for completing the tasks and meeting the expectations set for the consortium. The planned directions of development are part of efforts to increase Poland's participation and its importance in meteorology research on the international stage.
The Ministry of Education and Science's new 'Polish Meteorology' programme aims to support the implementation of projects to raise the research capacity of meteorology institutions, strengthen intellectual capital, increase the competitiveness of the Polish economy, develop modern technologies, and stimulate the development of meteorology, particularly in health, environment, energy and advanced measurement techniques, as well as the development of digital technologies.
