Dar Młodzieży in 2nd Place After 1st Stage of The Tall Ships Races
GMU would like to proudly announce that following the first stage of The Tall Ships Races between Klaipeda and Helsinki Dar Młodzieży and its crew are placed second. Captain Rafał Szymański’s crew has proven their outstanding abilities already in the first stage of the competition.
The success of the student cadets is all the more impressive given that their participation in the regatta comes at a time when they are involved in seafarer training on board the ship. This was highlighted by the Director of the Ship Management and Seagoing Service Department, Captain Dariusz Jellonek:
The crew of Dar Młodzieży is happy to take part in the races. The success of the ship in coming in second in Class A for the largest vessels during the first stage of the prestigious Tall Ships Races on 27 June is undoubtedly cause for pride and joy. However, it must be said that even when we’re involved in the races, our top priority is the training of Gdynia Maritime University students. It should also be mentioned that in addition to the training which the young people are currently involved in on board Dar Młodzieży, the events of The Tall Ships Races provide them with a fantastic opportunity to get to know other members of the crew.
Gdynia Maritime University has for 104 years continuously produced elite maritime personnel. An important part of maritime education is training at sea on board the University’s vessels - training and research ship Horyzont II and the world-famous sailing ship Dar Młodzieży.
This morning, the ‘white frigate’ left Kotka in Finland, sailing for Tallinn on the next stage of The Tall Ships Races.
The entire academic community at Gdynia Maritime University congratulates the crew on its success and wishes you favourable winds during the next stages of the races and your training.
