GMU Attends 17th Edition of IAIN World Congress

On 28-30 October 2024, the 17th edition of the International Association of Institutes of Navigation (IAIN) World Congress took place in Peking, China.  Taking part in the conference from Poland were the President of the International Association of Institutes of Navigation (IAIN) for the term 2021-2024 and the Director of the GMU Maritime Institute, Professor Krzysztof Czaplewski; the Chair of the Polish Navigation Forum, Dr Janusz Uriasz; and HM The Rector of GMU, Professor Adam Weintrit, the Deputy Chair of the Polish Navigation Forum.

The Kongress was opened by the Chair of IAIN, Professor Krzysztof Czaplewski, the President of IAIN, and the IAIN World Congress Organizing Committee and Academic Committee, took part in the opening ceremony of the Congress.  The event was opened by HM The Rector of GMU Professor Adam Weintrit, Adam Weintrit, who as a keynote speaker, presented a paper entitled: ‘A Balanced Reaction of Maritime Education Sector to Marine Technology Development, including Autonomous Surface Shipping’.

More than 400 participants took part in the Congress.  Additionally, the event was broadcast online via 10 social media channels, involving more than 40,000 people. The exhibition was attended by 30 Chinese and international non-profit organisations and companies whose areas of interest connected with different forms of transport.

During the closing session, the President of the Polish Navigation Forum, Dr Janusz Uriasz, discussed preparations for the next Congress, which will take place in Krakow in September 2027. All Navigation Institutes were invited to take part in this unique global navigation event.

As part of the Congress, a sitting of the IAIN Management Board and the IAIN General Assembly took place, during which the Association elected new authorities for the period 2024-2027. Zhang Baochen (CIN) was elected the new President of IAIN, whilst Professor Krzysztof Czaplewski (PNF), as an Immediate Past-President, was made a member of the Board.
