GMU Plays its Part in 32nd Finale of Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity
A chance to tour Dar Młodzieży sailing ship, showings in the University's planetarium, navigation simulator demonstrations, red hearts, and exciting online auctions - these are just some of the attractions prepared by Gdynia Maritime University staff and students as part of the 32nd Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOSP) on 28 January 2023.

Faculty of Navigation building / Al. Jana Pawła II 3/:
- Showings at the University Planetarium – showings will start every 30 minutes / entrance to the Planetarium via the main entrance to the Faculty of Navigation building / The last showing will start at 16:30.
- visits to the ship manoeuvre simulator and radar navigation simulator, where students of the Faculty of Navigation learn the art of manoeuvring a ship and more.
- Student Scientific Circle stands presenting activities and fascinating projects carried out by our students.
As part of our cooperation with Sail Team - "the Sailing Orchestra", the International Centre for Bone Marrow Donors (DKMS) will also be on-site, giving people the chance to register as a potential bone marrow donor. At 14:00, a presentation will be given on water safety, particularly aimed at teens and adults, by an experienced lifeguard from the Voluntary Water Rescue Service (WOPR). The Faculty of Navigation will also host a stall with WOŚP gifts.
Outside the Faculty building, in the quay opposite the Aquarium, the world-famous STS Dar Młodzieży will welcome visitors on board between the hours of 12:00 and 18:00.
As part of its open day, the 'White Frigate' will host pre-medical first aid and rescue techniques as part of the 'Medics on board the Dar' campaign. Experienced rescuers will discuss and demonstrate advanced airway removal techniques, the transport of post-traumatic patients, as well as the Rapid Ultrasound in Shock Protocol, and more.
Schedule for 'Medics on board the Dar":
- 12:00 – start of first-aid classes: first-aid using training dummies, patient transport, advanced rescue techniques and patient assistance (all day).
- 12:00 – 1st Ultrasound workshop - 'Mocni na Starcie' Foundation (group of 20)
- 14:00 – 2nd Ultrasound workshop - 'Mocni na Starcie' Foundation (group of 20)
- 16:00 – 3rd Ultrasound workshop - 'Mocni na Starcie' Foundation (group of 20)
- 18:00 - end of workshops
At 14:00 and 16:00 hours and definitely worth seeing at the Pomeranian Quay near the "Dar Młodzieży" there will be a live demonstration of a sea rescue.
The organisers of "Medics on the Dar" are WOŚP Team Warszawa #97. The event partners are AEDMax, Leardal Medical Polska, Foundation 'Mocni na Starcie', the Gdynia RW OSc, the Sail Team, and medical professionals associated with Dar Młodzieży.
Especially for the 32nd Grand Finale, students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering have made an extraordinary maritime lamp, which in addition to a fragment of a sail from the STS Dar Młodzieży signed by WOŚP leader Jurek Owsiak can be bid on during the Great Orchestra auction to be held at the Witold Gombrowicz City Theatre.
University merchandise shall also be put to auction online on Allegro by the Charity's Gdynia Office, operating at the YMCA in Gdynia. Auctions can be accessed on a special WOŚP profile and include:

In addition, fragments of one of the sails of Gdynia Maritime University's, sailing ship Dar Młodzieży signed by the leader of Great Orchestra, Jurek Owsiak, are also up for auction online.
All funds raised on the day and through the auction will be donated to the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity.
