GMU Staff Attend Maritime Industry Safety Forum
On 18 April 2024, the 6th edition of the Maritime Industry Security Forum organised by the Pomeranian Special Economic Zone, PZU LAB and PZU S.A. took place in the Conference Centre of the 2nd World War Museum in Gdansk.
Organised in three thematic blocks, topics of discussion included projects qualified for the NATO DIANA accelerator as examples of dual-use technology for the safety of maritime communications, such as the REVOBEAM intelligent start-up antennas. Also discussed were the opportunities and threats connected with the application of A.I. in automated maritime systems as well as research into the energy infrastructure in the Baltic Sea. Other topics included energy optimisation and the use of digital simulation for the improvement of the safety of offshore wind farms. The third and final panel focused on Digital Twins - a technology based largely on simulation, mathematical models, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
The event’s exhibition area enabled participants to take a closer look at the services offered by leading maritime industry companies, such as LKK, The Centre for New Competences (CNK), Firefly Poland, BELSE, PZU LAB, ABB Marine, Euvic, Mobile Monitoring, and the KEZO Research Centre of the Institute of Fluid Flow Machines of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The Centre for New Competencies demonstrated and allowed participants to try its newest digital training simulators aimed at improving the safety of offshore wind farms.
Taking part in the Forum from GMU were the Deputy Rector for Science, Professor Dariusz Barbucha, the Director of the Technology Transfer Office, Dr Magdalena Kukowska-Kaszuba, Innovation Broker Beata Wetoszka and assistant in the Department of Ship Electric Power Dr Andrzej Piłat.
