GMU Takes Part in Gdynia's Independence Day Celebrations
On 11 November 2024, Gdynia celebrated the 106th anniversary of Poland's regaining of independence in 1918 with a traditional parade of white and red that passed through the city centre.
This year's parade set off from Aleja Marszałka Piłsudskiego and passed through Świętojańska street, the city's main thoroughfare, to reach Skwer Kościuszki, where an official ceremony took place in front of the Maritime Poland monument, with the participation of the city's authorities, accompanied by an honorary military guard. Flowers were laid at the foot of the monument by HM The Rector of GMU, Professor Adam Weintrit; the Deputy Rector for Cooperation and Development, Professor Tomasz Tarasiuk; the Deputy Rector for Science, Dr Dariusz Barbucha; the Deputy Rector for Student Affairs and Education, Dr Sambor Guze; and Chancellor Filip Malata, supported by the University's Guard of Honour,
Also taking part in the parade were groups representing Gdynia schools, universities, and social organisations. The University was represented by its authorities, lecturers, staff, and students.
The Independence Parade ended at 13:00 in the Council of Europe park, where students and staff were treated to a sweet pastry and a hot drink. As is tradition, the parade was followed by a group photo.
Many thanks to all staff, students, and student scientific circles that took part in this year's celebrations of Poland's regaining of independence. See you next year!
