Pomeranian Parliamentary Group and Regional Government Representatives Attend Meeting with GMU Authorities
On 23 September 2024, a meeting took place between Gdynia Maritime University authorities, members of the Pomeranian Parliamentary Group, chaired by Member of the Polish Parliament [Sejm], Ms Agnieszka Pomaska, Member of the EU Parliament, Ms Magdalena Adamowicz, Governor of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, Ms Beata Rutkiewicz, and the Major of Gdynia, Ms Aleksandra Kosiorek. The parliamentarians and regional and local government representatives were welcomed on board Dar Młodzieży by HM The Rector of GMU, Professor Adam Weintrit.
During the meeting, the discussion focused on recent events in the life of the University and current maritime issues. The Rector also introduced the University’s newly appointed Deputy Rectors for the 2024-2028 term of office: The Deputy Rector for Science, Dr Dariusz Barbucha, the Deputy Rector for Student Affairs and Education, Dr Sambor Guze, and the Deputy Rector for Internationalisation, Professor Thomas Tarasiuk.
The meeting was also an opportunity to draw attention to the matters connected with the education of future personnel for Poland’s merchant fleet, including seafarer training taking place on board the University’s sail training ship, Dar Młodzieży. HM The Rector, Professor Adam Weintrit, ensured parliamentarians and regional and local government officials of the safety of training currently taking place on board the tall ship. However, the Rector highlighted the need for the Dar Młodzieży to be replaced by a new training vessel in the near future.
The meeting was followed by a tour of the world-famous ship led by HM The Rector, Professor Adam Weintrit, the ship’s commander, Captain Mirosław Peszkowski, and the Director of the Ship Management and Seagoing Service Department, Captain Dariusz Jellonek.
