Professor Andrzej Napieralski, an Honorary Doctor of GMU, Dies
It is with great regret and sadness that we learned of the passing of
Professor Andrzej Napieralski,
an Honorary Doctor of Gdynia Maritime University, the founder of the Department of Microelectronics and Information Technology,
a highly awarded inventor, and a previous Deputy Rector of
Lodz University of Technology.
The Rector, Senate, and academic community at
Gdynia Maritime University extend their deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.
Profesor Andrzej Napieralski was born in Lodz. He worked at Lodz University of Technology since 1973. His research interests included electronics and microelectronics.
In 1995 he became a titular professor in technical sciences. From 1992 to 1996 he held the post of deputy director of the Lodz University of Technology’s Electronics Institute, and in 1996 he became the head of the University’s Department of Microelectronics and Computer Science, which he founded. From 2002 to 2008, he served as the deputy rector for promotion and international cooperation.
Professor Napieralski actively participated in international projects, including 10 scientific research projects. He also took part in a NATO grant project and 8 TEMPUS projects, the ERASMUS MUNDUS - LAMENITEC project, as well as 59 KBN, NCN and NCBR grant projects.
He was a member of several dozen scientific committees at national and international conferences and the winner of 100 awards at international inventions exhibitions. At the Brussels Eureka World Exhibition of Inventions in 2009, together with his team, he won the Grand Prix of Innovation.
Under a decision of the Senate of Gdynia Maritime University of 28 November 2019, Professor Andrzej Napieralski was awarded the honorary title of Doctor honoris causa of Gdynia Maritime University. The ceremony for the conferral of the title took place in August 2020.
