Gdynia Maritime University GMU

This year, Gdynia Maritime University once again played its part in the grand finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity with students and staff of the University raising PLN 5,766.56. The funds will be used to combat sepsis and equip hospitals with modern diagnostic equipment.

On Sunday 29th January, staff and students of our University organised several activities in the Faculty of Navigation aimed at both children and adults. The collection began at 10:00 am and lasted until 14:00.

Attracting the most interest on the day was the Antoni Ledóchowski Planetarium, which, under the supervision of Mark Szczepański, welcomed almost 250 people for sessions led by students of the Faculty of Navigation. The manoeuvring simulator and radar navigation simulator were also open to the public, allowing those interested to visit any port in the world and feel like at the helm of a real ship.

The building of the Faculty of Navigation also hosted a shop with Charity merchandise run by the Gdynia office for the Grand Orchestra. There was also a stand run by Academia Wellness under the patronage of Herbalife, whose staff measured body composition parameters and BMI.

The SZKUNER SP2ZIE Maritime Communications Club showed all those interested in how to operate a short-wave radio station.

The Scientific Circle “LoGIStic”, based at the Faculty of Navigation, gave presentations on using drones in transport and logistics. Students from the E-Biznes Scientific Circle also joined in the efforts to raise money.

During the 31st Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity, we collected a total of PLN 3,045.86.

As in previous years, the staff and students of the Faculty of Marine Engineering also contributed, this year designing a unique and rather extraordinary maritime lamp. During the auction at the Municipal Theatre, conducted by Deputy Major of Gdynia Michał Gucia, the lamp was sold for PLN 1000.

University merchandise was also auctioned online on Allegro by the Great Orchestra’s Gdynia Office. A total of PLN 1720,70 was collected from all online auctions.

The total amount of PLN 5766.56 collected by Gdynia Maritime University was allocated entirely to the Foundation of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity.
