GMU Scientist, Dr Mateusz Gil, an assistant professor in the Department of Navigation at the Faculty of Navigation, has been awarded full funding for the implementation of the project Marine Interactive Navigation and Collision Avoidance System for Autonomous Ships, as part of the 15th edition of the LIDER programme, the National Research and Development Centre has announced.

LIDER is a programme addressed to doctoral candidates, academic teachers who do not hold a doctoral degree, as well as doctors, including those who have obtained their doctoral qualifications no earlier than within the last 7 years.

The goal of the initiative is to expand the competencies of young researchers in independently planning research work and managing their own teams during the implementation of projects whose results may have practical applications and demonstrate implementation potential.

Under the 15th edition of the competition, 41 projects, with a total financing value of 71.7 million PLN were awarded. The maximum amount of funding allocated to a single project is 1.8 million PLN. The full allocation was given to three scientists: Dr Mateusz Gil from the Department of Navigation at the GMU Faculty of Navigation, Dr Anna Kotowska-Zimmer of the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry at the Polish Academy of Sciences, and Dr Ewelina Bartuzi-Trokielewicz of the Science and Academic Computer Network at the National Research Institute.

LIDER is the longest-running programme offered by the National Centre for Research and Development – over fifteen editions of this initiative, over 600 young researchers have been selected and granted approximately 800 million PLN for their original research projects.
