GMU Authorities Attend Meeting at Ministry of Infrastructure and Sitting of Parliamentary Committee on Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation

On 24 April 2025, GMU authorities took part in a meeting with the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Dr Arkadiusz Marchewka. On the same day, HM The Rector of GMU, Professor Adam Weintrit, GMU Chancellor Filip Malata, and the Director of the Maritime Operations Department, Captain Dariusz Jellonnek, also attended a sitting of the Parliamentary Committee on Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation, where one of the topics of discussed was the current functioning of maritime universities, including Gdynia Maritime University - its investment needs, and the challenges associated with training future maritime personnel, including the construction of a successor to Dar Młodzieży.

Both the meeting and the sitting of the Parliamentary Committee on Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation were also attended by the Rector of the Maritime University of Szczecin, Dr Wojciech Ślączka, and the university’s Chancellor, Maciej Durajczyk.

During the meeting, the Ministry of Infrastructure allocated both maritime universities additional financial resources for future investments amounting to almost PLN 50 million. PLN 20 million of the total allocated funds were assigned to Gdynia Maritime University for the renovation of its student residences and teaching facilities, improvements to the university’s cybersecurity, as well as further scientific and research development.
