GMU Guard of Honour Take Part in Pilgrimage of the People of the Sea

On 19-20 September 2025, the GMU Guard of Honour and members of the GMU academic teaching staff and administration took part in the 43rd pilgrimage of the People of the Sea under the slogan 'People of the Sea, Pilgrims of Hope'.

The main highlights of the pilgrimage were participation in the evening Jasna Góra Appeal and the solemn Mass celebrated for the People of the Sea by Bishop Ryszard Kasyna, the Polish Bishops' Conference Delegate for the Pastoral Care of People of the Sea, and Father Dr Edward Pracz, held at the Chapel of the Miraculous Image in Częstochowa.

Members of the GMU Guard of Honour added a maritime setting to the ceremony by providing an honorary guard.

The Cross from the Dar Młodzieży

Featured in the Stations of the Cross held at the Jasna Góra ramparts was a wooden cross made from planks from the deck of the Dar Młodzieży by a student in the Faculty of Marine Navigation, Joanna Kowalak, Professor Captain Grzegorz Rutkowski, and the ship's carpenter. The cross was blessed before the ceremony by Bishop Ryszard Kasyna.

The organiser of the pilgrimage for many years has been Father Edward Pracz, the National Director of the Pastoral Care of the People of the Sea and the Chaplain of Gdynia Maritime University.
