GMU Plays its Part in 33rd Grand Finale of Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity

The GMU mascot strolling down Kościuszko Square in Gdynia, smiling children, over a thousand visitors on board Dar Młodzieży, engaging presentations prepared by representatives of public services on the Pomerania Quay, access to the University's simulators for all, and showings at the planetarium. This is how GMU played its part in the 33rd Grand Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity.

The 33rd Grand Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity took place on 26 January 2025, as per tradition, the last Sunday of January. This year's event raised funds for Paediatric Oncology & Haematology.

From noon, our students and staff were waiting for visitors at the Faculty of Navigation. Everyone was welcome to test their skills on the ship manoeuvre and radar navigation simulators and take part in fascinating showings at the Antoni Ledóchowski Planetarium.

Two student scientific circles, ISTL and LoGIStic, joined in the efforts and presented their activities and completed projects. They also specially prepared some activities for the Faculty's youngest visitors.

Those who wanted could stock up on the Great Orchestra's official merchandise at the stall run by volunteers from the Gdynia Collection Centre.

Over a thousand keen visitors used the opportunity to step on board our training frigate, Dar Młodzieży, which was also open to the public during the 33rd Grand Finale. Right opposite our vessel, on the quay, the servicewomen and servicemen of OSP RW, Gdynia's water rescue service; the OSP Crist Shipyard, Volunteer Fire Department; A&E Gdynia; and the EMS Volunteer Search and Rescue service showed visitors their specialist equipment and vehicles, familiarising them with their work.

During the Grand Orchestra Auction at the Witold Gombrowicz City Theatre, the extraordinary maritime lamp, made by the students of the Nautica student scientific circle and staff at the Faculty of Marine Engineering, was purchased for an impressive price of 5000 PLN.

Two of our students were invited to the Central Collection Centre in Warsaw where they presented the auction of a voucher for a Voyage on board the S/V Dar Młodzieży during part of the Tall Ships Races 2025. The auction is still live.

The University also put to auction some official University merchandise, vouchers, and gifts:

Set 1
Set 2
Set 3
Set 4
Set 5
Set 6

The majority of the above auctions are still live.

All funds raised as part of the event have been passed on to the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity.

We would like to thank all students, employees, Dar Młodzieży crew, servicewomen and servicemen, scouts, and medics for taking part in the 33rd Grand Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity at GMU.

We would also like to extend special thanks to Mariusz Sękowski for his special efforts in organising the event, and to Ms Maria Bocianowska and Hotel SPA Faltom in Rumia for providing refreshments for the students.

Thanks to all who came and visited us on Sunday despite the rather rainy weather.

We are looking forward to seeing you next year during another Grand Finale!
