GMU Scientists Presented Medals for Inventions

On 18 December 2024, a ceremony was held at Gdynia Maritime University for the presentation of medals awarded at the 23rd International Warsaw Inventions Show (IWIS) which took place on 14 to 16 October 2024. The ceremony was organised by the Office of the Deputy Rector for Internationalisation, Cooperation and Development.

The Jury assessed the market potential of solutions, the strategy taken for their legal protection, including the submission of industrial property items to the Polish and foreign Patent Offices, as well as the level of technological readiness and the ecological aspect. Also important in the assessment were innovations that reduce the impact of negative factors on human health and life, safety and the environment.

The Deputy Rector for Internationalisation, Cooperation and Development, Professor Tomasz Tarasiuk, congratulated the winners and presented the leaders of the groups of innovators behind the inventions developed at GMU laboratories with the medals awarded by the IWIS.

Gold medals were collected by Dr Joanna Brzeska, Assoc. Prof. (Faculty of Management and Quality Science), Dr/Captain Grzegorz Rutkowski, Assoc. Prof., and Paweł Kołakowski, (Faculty of Navigation). A silver medal was presented to Karol Listewnik (Faculty of Electrical Engineering) Another winner of a silver medal was Olga Łastowska (Faculty of Marine Engineering), who was unable to attend the meeting.  Bronze medals were accepted by Krzysztof Górecki (Faculty of Electrical Engineering) and Dr Adam Kaizer (Faculty of Navigation).

2. Silver Medals were awarded for the Inventions:

  • DEVICE FOR IMPLEMENTING INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY FOR POST-WELDING SURFACE FINISHING
    Dr Olga Łastowska (Faculty of Marine Engineering)
  • EIGHT-CHANNEL HAT EXPANSION BOARD
    Dr Karol Listewnik (Faculty of Electrical Engineering)

3. Bronze Medals were awarded for the Inventions:

  • SYSTEM FOR MEASURING THE THERMAL RESISTANCE OF THE SOLDERED JOINT OF A POWER TRANSISTOR
    Professor Krzysztof Górecki, Dr Paweł Górecki, Adrian Pietruszka (Faculty of Electrical Engineering)
  • A DEVICE FOR MONITORING THE TECHNICAL CONDITION OF UNDERWATER, STEEL PARTS OF PORTS' WHARF
    Dr Adam Kaizer, Michał Skrzypek, Paweł Wierzbicki, Błażej Mach, Agata Troka, Justyna Kulesza, Agnieszka Ignasiak (Faculty of Navigation)

At the 23rd International Warsaw Inventions Show, GMU inventions were presented and medals were accepted by Beata Wetoszka and Marlena Żur-Lewandowska, Innovation Brokers in the GMU Technology Transfer Office. Applications for patent protection for the GMU inventions were submitted by patent agent Dr Magdalena Kukowska-Kaszuba, Director of the Technology Transfer Office.
