School of Physical Education and Sport
The Physical Education and Sports Centre is an interfaculty unit that provides classes across all faculties.
Students take physical education classes during the first and second years of their studies.
In the first year, instruction is provided at the GMU indoor swimming pool aimed at improving the swimming skills of future seafarers. Graduates are required to demonstrate proficiency in four swimming strokes and pass a practical assessment.
In the second year, PE classes take place at the University’s Sports and Recreation Centre.
Students from all years studying full- or part-time who wish to take care of their physical fitness can take part in the classes of the following sports sections:
- women’s volleyball
- men’s volleyball
- men’s basketball
- men’s football
- swimming
- martial arts
- powerlifting
- sport climbing
- sailing
as well as sections focused on general fitness, swimming development, and learn-to-swim programmes.
Students who participate in sports sections and win medals at the Polish Championships are eligible for a sports scholarship, while outstanding athletes may receive a Minister of Science and Higher Education scholarship.
